Christmas Decorating Ideas for your Porch

Now that Halloween’s over and we’re about to celebrate another holiday, it’s about time to keep those spider webs, witches, black cats and other Halloween accessories.  Replace those scary decors with adornments that will excite you more while counting the days left until Christmas. Start decorating from the outside and give your porch a touch of Christmas. Incorporate the customary colors of red and green in your decorations.

Since lights are more often than not part of Christmastime, you can add outdoor lanterns with battery operated candles in your porch. Make your doorway brighter at nighttime by placing garlands swathed with twinkling Christmas lights in your door frame. Garlands with red and green Christmas lights can also be placed around your windows. Unleash your creative side as you turn your door into a giant Christmas present. Wrap your door with a shiny Christmas foil and stick bows and ribbon on it.

Include plants that remind you of the Christmas season such as poinsettia (also called Christmas star), butcher’s broom, Christmas cactus and cyclamen. If you don’t want to spend much on Christmas plants and you already have green plants, you can tie red ribbons around them to create a holiday feel.

Your entryway is also perfect to be decorated with Santa figures, a snowman, Christmas trees, reindeer and colorful gifts. Create a winter wonderland theme by combining white Christmas lights. For places that don’t get snow during the holidays, add lighted snowflakes and sprinkle artificial snows in your porch decorations for a snowy effect.

Match your front door mat with the decorations. Replace your old mat with a bright Christmas-themed welcome rug. Feel the spirit of Christmas as you  follow these simple tips for your entryway and delight your friends, guests, relatives as they enter in your home.

Inspiring Red, White and Black Bedroom Concept

Black and red are both bold colors. When these two hues are used in your bedroom, would you believe that your space can still have that fresh, comfortable and welcoming ambiance you desire? We will reveal some tricks on how to have a red and black bedroom that does not appear small or overpowering. Want to know how?  The secret lies as you incorporate lighter colors or neutral shades like white into your design.

To have a cozy red, black and white bedroom, paint your walls and ceiling with white. Complement the color scheme in your room as you use red and black for your accessories. A wrought iron bed with red and black bedding and white pillows can surely give you a good night sleep. Include red bedroom curtains in your decoration. Then, add a red vase or red lampshade for your bedside table.

You can also create an accent wall by coating a single wall with a darker shade (red perhaps), while painting the remaining walls with white. If you’re not sure which type of red shade you’re going to use, deep red colors are best to be applied for large rooms while shades of red in the pink family are ideal to be used for small bedrooms. Use white or red for the decorations in your room, like the furniture, mirrors, pillows and your curtains. Liven up the atmosphere as you apply red and black for your bed linen.

Bedrooms with white bedding accented with red and black throw pillows will also look neat and chic. Match your decoration with red furniture or black fixtures with smooth lines. Place a rug on the floor in any of these three shades for an elegant touch.

The fact that black and red are bold hues should not avert you from using these as colors for your bedrooms. The brightness and intensity of black and red hues will be toned down when white is blended in your color scheme.

When these three shades are used creatively, your bedroom will look more inviting, vibrant, cozy and spacious. Not to mention, red, black and white colors are said to be so versatile since these colors can convey masculinity and feminism.

Budget-Friendly Tips to Smarten Up Your Home

Have you ever thought of transforming your dull and uninteresting space into a colorful, comfortable and vibrant place? Here are some ways on how to add life into your rooms without spending much of your savings.

Start the make-over either by painting the ceiling with colors that are lighter than the rooms in your walls or by decorating with decals and stencils. You can also add decals to your walls for more unique look instead of the typical wallpaper or you can paint an accent wall in a high contrast color.

Use colorful pillows for sofas with neutral colors. Place light yellow fixtures or any bright accessories to liven up that dreary space. Also, enhance the atmosphere in your home by adding accent lighting to a piece of art, bookshelf and floor lamp. Mirrors create an illusion of a wider or bigger space so don’t forget to include mirrors in your decorations.

Check your storage areas and look for items that can still be used as interior decors. An old furniture will look new just by repainting or changing the fabric. If you like, you can also reupholster it. Reuse those antique tea towels, linens and napkins that you have been keeping and use them as accent pillows for your window seat.

Turn a plain lampshade into a stylish piece of craft. You can use any scrap booking materials that you like in customizing your lampshade. If you have a tabletop that is still to be adorned, stick pictures on it, like postcards, pictures of your loved ones and families taken during the holidays, or printed materials. Place a glass on top of it for a sophisticated effect.

You don’t need to buy expensive paintings in decorating, especially when you are on a tight budget. You can clip out photos from old calendars, frame, hang and use them as your wall decors. Nature can be your good inspiration in decorating. Include fresh flowers and green houseplants in your decors. These add colors and textures to your house interior. Use inexpensive bamboo mats for your floors instead of costly ones. Lastly, add framed, pressed leaves of trees or handmade grapevine wreath to your decors.

Decorating does not mean spending too much. You just have to unleash the creativeness in you as you make use of nature’s gifts and the things that you currently have at home.

Simple Decorating Ideas for your Kitchen

Your kitchen is one of the spots in the house where your family gathers and creates memories. For some moms, the kitchen is the place where they bond with kids while cooking.  It is said to be the most used room in your home, thus beautifying your kitchen should be included in your to do list.

In searching for suitable kitchen colors, go for those that can stimulate and relax you at the same time. But not too relaxing since it might hinder your cooking (of course, you don't want to start preparing your food by 6 o'clock and finish cooking by 12 midnight because you're too relaxed) neither too stimulating for it could make you forget about not eating too much.

You may use warm colors such as yellow and gold for your kitchen. These colors can increase or stimulate your appetite and senses as well as red. Nature inspired shades of green can also be applied in your kitchen for these colors provide calming and relaxing ambiance.

Earth colors like brown and light beige as well as cream and white are also perfect for your kitchen. Wipe out dullness or coldness by adding colors in your accessories or accents such as colorful table cloths or mats and bright colored curtains and fabrics. You can use black for your appliances and cabinets. Match it with light colored walls to achieve balance.

Rugs can also be used in your kitchen. Just make sure to complement the color of your rug to the colors of your accessories and curtains. For neutral colored plates, add colorful charger plates beneath them. Brighten up your kitchen more by adding flowers and candles. Instead of using an old bowl for your fruits, try using a tall glass vase filled with oranges or lemons or a china dish stuffed with colorful fruits.

Complement the color of the ceiling in your kitchen with the color of your furniture or your decors. For your flooring, terra-cotta tiles or wood floors can warm up your kitchen if it is too bright with daylight while white tiles can help brighten up your kitchen that does not receive much sunlight during the day. One clever idea in designing your kitchen is to use neutral colors for expensive fixtures like your counter tops. Apply bright or bold colors for not too expensive items and decors that are easy to change.

Make your kitchen clutter free by adding a shelf where you can keep some of your decorative items, dishes and herbs. Put hooks at the bottom of the shelf where you can hang your coffee mugs.  Include appliances and equipment that are small and will not take much space. Place only those that are used most of the time.
